ILLINOIS GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SB0010: DHS-DRUG OVERDOSE PREVENTION
Summary: Amends the Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and Dependency Act. In a provision concerning the Department of Human Services’ Drug Overdose Prevention Program, adds State and local law enforcement agencies to the list of agencies that may apply for grants to create or support local drug overdose prevention, recognition, and response projects.

SB1802/ HB2743: INS CD-ABUSE DETERRENT OPIOIDS
Summary: Provides that government programs and accident and health insurance policies providing coverage for prescription drugs shall provide coverage for abuse-deterrent opioid analgesic drugs as preferred drugs on their formulary, preferred drug list, or other lists of similar construct.

SB0073/ HB0438: SCH CD-ADMIN OPIOID ANTIDOTE
Summary: Amends the School Code. Allows a school district, public school, or nonpublic school to authorize a school nurse or trained personnel to administer an undesignated dose of an opioid antidote to any person that the school nurse or trained personnel in good faith believes is having an opioid overdose.

U.S. SENATE & HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

S. 1134: HEROIN AND PRESCRIPTION OPIOID ABUSE PREVENTION, EDUCATION, AND ENFORCEMENT ACT OF 2015
Summary: Aims to better enable healthcare providers and public health officials to prevent prescription drug abuse; support law enforcement efforts to get heroin off the streets; allow more first responders access to life-saving naloxone, and raise awareness among health care providers, patients, and the public regarding prescription opioid abuse and heroin.

S. 707/ H.R. 1821: OPIOID OVERDOSE REDUCTION ACT OF 2015
Summary: To provide certain protections from civil liability with respect to the emergency administration of opioid overdose drugs.

S.1455: THE RECOVERY ENHANCEMENT FOR ADDICTION TREATMENT (TREAT ACT)
Summary: Legislation would expand the ability of addiction medical specialists and other trained medical professionals to provide life-saving medication-assisted therapies such as buprenorphine (also called Suboxone) for patients battling heroin and prescription drug addiction.

S. 524/ H.R. 953: COMPREHENSIVE ADDICTION AND RECOVERY ACT OF 2015
Summary: A bill to authorize the Attorney General to award grants to address the national epidemics of prescription opioid abuse and heroin use.

S. 636: INCREASING THE SAFETY OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG USE ACT OF 2015
Summary: A bill to reduce prescription drug misuse and abuse.
